Seldinger Guidewires Brief Statement
Indications
All endourologic procedures or percutaneous urologic procedures requiring a guidewire. Stiff guidewires are particularly indicated for the insertion of a percutaneous nephrostomy.
Contraindications
Same as for a metal guidewire. Any known allergies to the medical device materials.
Warnings and Precautions
The Seldinger guidewires are P.T.F.E coated. This type of device must only be used by experienced and trained professionals.
Potential Complications
Do not use this guidewire with any electrosurgical equipment such as an electric scalpel to avoid the risk of iatrogenic burns. Perforation of the ureter is a classic risk connected with the use of a guidewire. It is advisable to proceed slowly and with caution to avoid it, inserting the guidewire flexible tip first.
